Part – A

2nd PUC Basic Maths Matrices and Determinants Ex 1.3 One and Two Marks Questions and Answers

Question 1.
2nd PUC Basic Maths Question Bank Chapter 1 Matrices and Determinants Ex 1.3 - 1
Answer:
(i) \(\left| \begin{matrix} 2 & -3 \\ 1 & 4 \end{matrix} \right|\)
= (2 × 4) – (1 × -3) = 8 + 3 = 11

(ii) \(\left| \begin{matrix} 2 & 0 \\ 0 & 5 \end{matrix} \right| \)
= (2 × 5) – (0 × 0) = 10

(iii) \(\left| \begin{matrix} 6 & 7 \\ 5 & 4 \end{matrix} \right| \)
= 6 × 4 – 5 × 7 = 24 – 35 = -11

(iv) \(\left| \begin{matrix} x & y \\ y & x \end{matrix} \right| \)
= x × x – y × y = x2 – y2

(v) \(\left| \begin{matrix} a+b & a-b \\ a & b \end{matrix} \right| \)
= ab + b2 – a2 + ab = b2 – a2 + 2ab.

Question 3.
2nd PUC Basic Maths Question Bank Chapter 1 Matrices and Determinants Ex 1.3 - 5
Answer:
(i) \(2\left| \begin{matrix} 4 & 0 \\ -1 & 5 \end{matrix} \right| -3\left| \begin{matrix} 3 & 0 \\ 1 & 5 \end{matrix} \right| -2\left| \begin{matrix} 3 & 4 \\ 1 & -1 \end{matrix} \right|\)
2(20 + 0) -3 (15 – 0) -2(-3 -4)
2(20) -3(15) -2(-7)
40 – 45 + 14 = 9

(ii) \(3\left| \begin{matrix} 3 & -2 \\ 4 & 3 \end{matrix} \right| +1\left| \begin{matrix} 1 & -2 \\ 1 & 3 \end{matrix} \right| +2\left| \begin{matrix} 1 & 3 \\ 1 & 4 \end{matrix} \right| \)
= 3(9+8) + 1(3 + 2) +2(4 – 3)
= 3(17) + 1(5) + 2(1)
= 51 + 5 + 2 = 58

(iii) 2(20 – 0) – 0 + 0 = 40

(iv) 2(-1 + 8) + 1(-3 + 2) +1(12 – 1)
2(7) + 1(-1) +11 =14 – 1 + 11 = 24

(v) \(1\left| \begin{matrix} 1 & -4 \\ 0 & -2 \end{matrix} \right| -2\left| \begin{matrix} 3 & -9 \\ 1 & -2 \end{matrix} \right| -1\left| \begin{matrix} 3 & 1 \\ 1 & 0 \end{matrix} \right| \)
= 1(-2 + 0) -2(-6 + 4) -1(0 – 1)
= -2 – 2(-2) + 1 = -2 + 4 + 1 = 3.

Question 4.
2nd PUC Basic Maths Question Bank Chapter 1 Matrices and Determinants Ex 1.3 - 6
Answer:
(i) 1 (3x – 12) -2(6 – 9) +3(8 – 3x) = 0
3x – 12 – 2 (-3) + 24 – 9x = 0
3x – 12 + 6 + 24 – 9x = 0
-6x + 18 = 0 ⇒ x = \(\frac { -18 }{ -6 }\) = 3

(ii) 1( -2x – 0) -2 (-4 – 30) + 5(0 – 3x) = 0
-2x -2(-34) -15x = 0
-2x + 68 – 15x = 0
68 – 17x = 0 ⇒ 68 = 17x
⇒ x = \(\frac { 68 }{ 17 }\) = 4

(iii) \(x\left| \begin{matrix} x & 0 \\ 0 & x \end{matrix} \right| +1\left| \begin{matrix} 0 & x \\ 1 & 0 \end{matrix} \right| =0\)
x(x2 – 0) + 1(0 – x)
x3 – x = 0 ⇒ x(x2 – 1) = 0
⇒ x = 0 of x = ±1

(iv) 7(5 – 3x) -4 (-3 + x2) + 11(-9 + 5x) = 0
35 – 21x + 12 – 4x2 – 99 + 55x = 0
-4x2 + 34x – 99 + 47 = 0 (÷2)
2x2 – 17x + 26 = 0
2x2 – 13x – 4x + 26= 0
x(2x – 13) -2 (2x – 13) = 0
(x – 2) (2x – 13) = 0 ⇒ x = 2 of x = \(\frac { 13 }{ 2 }\)

KSEEB Solutions

(v) \(x\left| \begin{matrix} 0 & x \\ x & 0 \end{matrix} \right| +2\left| \begin{matrix} 2 & 0 \\ 0 & x \end{matrix} \right| =0\)
x(0 – x2) + 2(2x – 0) = 0
– x3 + 4x = 0
– x(x2 – 4)=0
⇒ x = 0 , x = ±2
