उत्तरम
One who does Suryanamaskaram every day will attain long life, strength, courage and fame. Those who practice pranayama according to yoga Shastra will be healthy. But this who will not practice according to the Shastra (rule of yoga) is responsible for the occurrence of diseases.

आहारसेवनस्य वैशिष्टयं वर्णयत ।
उत्तरम
We should not practice defaming work (prohibited) for the sake of food. One should (get) earn the food for his sustenance. Sustenance is important to know the paramatattwa (holy knowledge) and paramatattwa will destroy (make away with) the pain of mind. Consumption of unhealthy or unsuitable food is the root cause of various infections, and these infections will lead to various diseases. Therefore, keeping all these aspects in mind, we have to consume healthy, timely and limited food. We should have good control over our sense organs. By following these tips we can keep the diseases at a distance.

This lesson comprises of the compilation of the rules and regulations of the health prescribed by Sushrutha, Charaka and Vagbhata.

‘शरीरमाद्यं खलु धर्मसाधनम्’ इति कालिदासीयवचनागुणं शरीररक्षणम् अत्यावश्यकम्। तेन दीर्घायुः लभ्यते । तच्च दीर्घायुः आरोग्याधीनम् । जीवने सुखशान्त्यादीनां प्राप्तिः आरोग्य संरक्षणेनैव साध्या। रोगाणां निवारणापेक्षया प्रतिबन्ध एव वरम् इति तु आरोग्यसूत्रम् । प्रकृते चरकसुश्रुतवाग्भटैः उक्ताः आरोग्यनियमाः – सङ्ग्रहीताः सन्ति ।

Longevity divided into four types. They are beneficial (advantage), disadvantage, joyful and painful. Ayurveda (the science of medicine) tells us about these things.
For which person, wind (vaata), bile (pitta), phlegm (kafa)- the three humours of the body, digestive function, the seven types of rasas – कटु, आम्ल, मधुर, लवण,तिक्त, कषाय and water, urine and motion are properly functioning and also whose mind and (his) sense organs were calm and proper – that person called as ‘healthy’ in all the aspects.

1. हिताहितं सुखं दुःखमायुस्तस्य हिताहितम् ।
मानं च तच्च यत्रोक्तमायुर्वेदः स उच्यते ॥
2. समदोषः समाग्निश्च समधातुमलक्रियः ।
प्रसन्नात्मेन्द्रियमनाः स्वस्थ इत्यभिधीयते ॥
3. आदित्यस्य नमस्कारान् ये कुर्वन्ति दिने दिने।
दीर्घमायुः बलं चैव तेजस्तेषां च जायते ।।
4. प्राणायामेन युक्तेन सर्वरोगक्षयो भवेत् ।
अयुक्ताभ्यासयोगेन सर्वरोगस्य संभवः ।।
5. स्नानमूलाः क्रियाः सर्वाः स्मृतिश्रुत्युदिता नृणाम् ।
तस्मात् स्नानं निषेवेत श्रीपुष्ट्यारोग्यवर्धनम्।
6. आहारार्थं कर्मकुर्यादनिन्द्यं कुर्यादाहारं प्राणसंधारणार्थम् ।

पश्यन् रोगान् बहून् कष्टान् बुद्धिमान् विषमाशनात् ।।
